Protecting the Resources Boom

Sydney, Aus., 15 October, 2008 - The ability to meet tight deadlines, a broad range of skills and expertise and the development of systems tailored to clients needs has won Chubb Fire Safety contracts worth more than $15 million to provide fire protection services to some of Australia’s key mineral exporters.

The largest contact is with Rio Tinto for fire sprinkler and hydrant systems and gas and electrical fire detection systems at the new underground operations at the Argyle diamond mine in WA’s Kimberley region.

Chubb Fire Safety will also be installing sprinkler, deluge, detection and occupant warning systems at OZ Minerals’ site at Prominent Hill in northern South Australia.

“These contracts have presented major challenges for our team, which I am proud to say they have met easily. At Prominent Hill the very tight time frame, with the work to be completed by November, 2008, really put the team, Steve Brown, Darren Hamilton and Mitchell Pennington, on the spot but they showed that Chubb Fire Safety could do the job,” Rodney Molla, Managing Director, Chubb Fire Safety, said.

“The job at Argyle also presented some special challenges, especially with the nature of underground mining and the remote location. Our team will spend the next two years making sure that the new underground mine at Argyle has the fire protection systems needed to ensure the safe expansion of Australia’s most important precious minerals site,” Mr Molla said.

The work won by Chubb Fire Safety also includes key export facilities.

The company will begin installing fire suppression and deluge systems in the expanded Abbot Point coal terminal at Bowen in north Queensland in October. The contract for John Holland Pty. Ltd. covers the installation of fire detection systems, aragonite, gaseous suppression systems as well as conveyor fire deluge systems and is being undertaken for Ports Corporation of Queensland as part of the X25 expansion project.

“These contract wins are not just a positive for our team but also a recognition by clients and potential customers that Chubb Fire Safety, backed by the resources of its parent UTC Fire & Security and subsidiaries all over the globe, can bring the best fire and safety solutions available to the Australian market,” Mr Molla said.

Chubb Fire Safety is part of Chubb Australasia, which is part of UTC Fire and Security, a US$5.8 billion company that provides fire safety and security solutions to more than one million customers worldwide.
